IRS Issues Guidelines for Same-Sex Couples

In a step that recognizes the validity of same-sex partnerships — and the complexity of the tax issues they face, the IRS has issued answers to frequently asked questions regarding taxation for same-sex couples . Most of these complexities result from the lack of federal recognition — which hopefully will come to an end once DOMA is repealed or declared unconstitutional by an appellate court.
